adil

Adil was born in the sixth century in the suburbs of Balamkadaar.

His father was a genie (to be found today in a bottle of pop at the bottom of the Nile) and his mother was a teacher of the Dance of the Seven Veils. Like all kids, Adil went to school, only his was a Genie School, the world famous School for Genie Arts and Sciences. We wish we could say that Adil was the perfect student... but he wasn't. Adil climbed into a lamp for a dare, strictly forbidden for first year students, and got himself stuck!

Unfortunately the forty thieves chose that very night to burgle the school and took the lamp with them!

Then began a journey that lasted 17 centuries.

Forgotten for a hundred years or so in Ali Baba's cave, the lamp then passed from hand to hand, with Adil making an appearance every hunderd years or so from Peking ("Great Wall of China - I did that!") to Renaissance Italy ("The Mona Lisa - I did that!) and England in the early 20th Century ("The Titanic - OK... I did that. Nobody's perfect!") before arriving in the hands of Sophie and Emma.

Adil is proud to be a genie and ready to to move mountains if that's what's required of him. It just might take him a while to do it, that's all!

You see, he often skipped his classes and sort of didn't get round to finishing the academic year: so he hasn't actually, 'technically', mastered his profession... certain wishes are granted more or less 'approximately'.

When he grants a wish it could be good or bad. And when it's bad, surely it could never have been his fault! Never accept criticism when you can lie through your teeth to cover up: "Yes you asked for a diamond and I made a duck appear but that's normal, in Balaamkaadar in the fourth century, the duck was considered the diamond of the farmyard. "

"Oh yes..."
